Miscellaneous @ 26 Nov 2006 12:57 pm by Kevyspice
Well, the Freeport campaign blog is hobbling back to life on a new domain. See http://fnord.kevyspice.org for a slightly more thorough description of the Leafyhost mess. While they still haven’t recovered my old MySQL database, I did manage to snag most of the Freeport campaign blog entries from teh Google’s massive intarweb cache. The tens of thousands of words of session summaries are now copied to a set of text files on my hard drive *and* on my webspace. Let’s hope Hostgator’s backups are a bit more reliable than Leafyhost’s…

After some discussion, the Lobstermen ship and their escorts departed. When they were out of sight, Richard, Spike, and Chow descended to the sea floor. They found the wreck of the Tammeraut‘s stern stuck through an artificial layer of Valossan-runed stone. Spike was attacked immediately upon entering a hole in the hull, but Richard’s summoned water elemental made quick work of the drowned ones when it obliterated the remains of the ship in a spectacular vortex.
The remaining drowned one and the ghostly octopus in the cave below fled into the extradimensional gate at one end of the cave when the party attacked. The ghostly former ship captain proved a bit more of a challenge, but fell to the party’s combined forces regardless. With the immediate threats neutralized, Richard blocked up the extraplanar orifice with shaped stone plug fused to the sea floor. While investigating the pile of bones in the cave, Spike happened to clear the space around a hideous, squat little statue representing the bulbous, finned, tentacled form of Dagon. Upon seeing the statue, the ship captain began behaving irrationally, alternately babbling, stabbing at the statue, and striking at Richard. The priest successfully removed the curse from his friend, dropped a dagger to the seafloor near the statue to aid in future scrying attempts, and swam through the hole above. With all three companions accounted for, Richard created an inconspicous wall of stone to cover the hole and disguise the fact that it had even been there.
When the three returned to the surface, they discovered that Will had reappeared on deck bearing a strangely upbeat letter from Torya, addressed to her brother Togar. Wondering if the fun would ever start, they stowed their new-found loot and racked out for some well-deserved rest.

Session Summaries; Vol. 17: Dagon's Maw @ 26 Nov 2006 12:26 pm by Kevyspice

After taking tea with the Governor, receiving several gifts from the Emperor, and being inducted into the Order of the Silver Tiger, the group set sail for Dagon’s Maw. When they arrived, they found a Freeport vessel flanked by a couple of ships bearing crimson flags. As the various parties discussed how to proceed, the lantern sea serpent appeared amidst the assembled ships. The Freeport ship, apparently owned by the Society of Lobstermen, raised anchor and unfurled sail when their diver’s air hose and anchor rope tugged violently and went slack, and the winch dragged the upper half of a strange helmeted suit aboard. The sea serpent attacked one of the crimson-flagged ships, while the other fled. The Primrose and Sea Wind offered what support they could, fighting the serpent and the swarm of sharks feeding on the panicked sailors who had jumped into the water. Eventually Balama cast a couple of spells on Spike, who flew over and attacked the serpent in melee combat. Richard summoned a massive water elemental to assist, but Spike shouted at Richard to call off the summoned aid so he could finish the damned snake himself. When the wounded serpent sounded, Spike followed in a frenzy and slew the beast.

Will Teach used a spell to determine that there were three distinct sentient minds dwelling within the carved tree in the cavern. He and some of the rest of the party approached the tree, and communicated with the three creatures. They were determined to be mineral-eating creatures called xorns, and seemed to be upset that “she” had not delivered promised payment. Chow and the rest of the group gathered some coins and gems to offer to the xorns in exchange for the creatures’ non-interference in whatever happened with the suspicious tree statue.
